MEDIA STATEMENT
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity received a formal letter from the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Workers Unionorganizing committee on January 28, 2026 requesting union recognition as a workers’ union with AFSCME Council 5. This month, eligible employees of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity had the opportunity to participate in an election run by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to vote on whether or not to form a union. The bargaining unit includes eligible employees from all parts of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and TCHFH Lending, Inc., such as construction, real estate, ReStore, resource development, and programs and services.
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and AFSCME Council 5 believe every eligible employee deserves the opportunity to make their choice freely and privately, and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity shared with staff that their decision would be supported no matter the outcome.
The ballots were counted earlier today, and we are announcing that the result of the vote showed that the majority of eligible voting workers chose to form a union. We will continue working together to carry out our organization’s collective mission. Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, TCHFH Lending, Inc., and AFSCME Council 5 will work together on the next steps in the process in the coming days. Our entities are fully invested in our team members.
We are appreciative of the respectful approach and investment shown throughout this process from eligible employees, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, TCHFH Lending, Inc., and AFSCME Council 5, and we thank the NLRB for facilitating the vote.
Chris Coleman, CEO and president of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity
Robyn Bipes-Timm, president of TCHFH Lending, Inc.; and
Bart Andersen, executive director of AFSCME Council 5
