Want to Organize a Union?

Unions are groups of workers who come together to win dignity, respect, and fair treatment on the job. Starting a union at your workplace takes commitment, but it’s not rocket science. With the right support, you and your coworkers can make it happen.

Unions are formed through a majority vote of you and your coworkers. That’s why the first questions to ask are: How much support is there for a union? What issues matter most to us at work?

Your employer type also matters. Are you working for a large corporation, a government agency, a hospital, or a small franchise? Different rules apply for public and private employers, and different unions represent different groups of workers.

AFSCME Council 5 represents employees in state and local governments, school boards, health care, and non-profits across Minnesota. Even if you’re outside these areas, we can connect you with the right people to help.

Everything you share with us is completely confidential. We’ll respect your privacy and only use your information to connect you with an organizer.

Please give us a few details in the form below, and we'll get in touch right away

Enter your personal non-work phone number where we can contact you.

In a few words, tell us why you want to form a union. It doesn’t need to be long or list every issue—just give us a sense of what’s happening at your job. There are no wrong answers.

Are you underpaid? Understaffed? Dealing with a difficult manager?

There are as many reasons to form a union as there are members. Share yours!
