Join Working People's Day of Action Saturday

Working people and our allies will gather Saturday, Feb. 24 to stand up for our freedom to join together in strong unions and build a brighter future for our families and our communities.

Join us in the Capitol Rotunda in Saint Paul starting at 10:30 a.m. RSVP here. The same day, our fellow union members and our allies in social justice will converge in several cities across the nation. Together we’ll raise our voices in a collective Working People’s Day of Action.

We’ll stand up for our freedom to come together in strong unions and fight for equitable pay; for affordable health care, quality schools and vibrant communities; and for a secure future for all of us. We’ll demand an end to a system that’s rigged against working people by corporate elites, extremists and the corrupt politicians who do their bidding.

On Monday, Feb. 26, these wealthy special interests will try to stack the deck even more in their own favor. That’s when the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a case called Janus v. AFSCME Council 31. It attempts to divide working people and limit our power in numbers because unions give workers the freedom to speak up for ourselves, our families and our communities.

If the Supreme Court sides with these corporate interests, those who work in the public service – including correctional officers, nurses, teachers, firefighters and clerical workers – would be denied the freedom to have strong unions that make our communities safe, healthy and strong. The ruling could cut off a path to the middle class for millions of Americans, especially women and communities of color.

But when we join forces and stick together, we are unstoppable. Fifty years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his life in Memphis, Tenn., to help striking African American sanitation workers win freedom and dignity on the job. Those men famously carried signs proclaiming, “I AM A MAN.”

On Feb. 24, we’ll rise up to defend the very freedoms for which Dr. King fought and died.

Bring your friends and family, and join the historic event at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Capitol Rotunda, 75 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Saint Paul.

Free buses will bring workers and their families in from across the state. Just RSVP to let us know you’re coming and sign up for buses at https://actionnetwork.org/events/working-peoples-day-of-action-st-paul-mn.

The Day of Action is hosted by: AFSCME, Education Minnesota, SEIU, MAPE, Teamsters, Inter-Faculty Organization, Minnesota Nurses Association, Middle Management Association, Jobs with Justice, MN AFL-CIO, and the Minneapolis and Saint Paul Regional Labor Federations.
