STATE FAIR MEMBER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AFSCME KIOSK
Volunteer opportunities are still available for the AFSCME State Fair kiosk.  We’ve had an incredible response by members so far.  Volunteers are needed to fill shifts during Labor Day weekend.  Sign up today for a shift at the AFSCME Council 5 kiosk at the newly built State Fair Labor Pavilion.  Its fun and Council 5 will pay your fair admission.  To sign up, contact Jessica Hayssen at Jessica.Hayssen@afscmemn.org or 651-287-0537.

MOOSE LAKE, ANOKA DHS HOLD INFORMATIONAL PICKETS ON LAYOFFS
Moose Lake DHS Local 1092 and Anoka DHS Local 1307 are the latest locals standing up to dangerous Department of Human Services layoffs.  Statewide layoffs threaten worker and public safety.  DHS locals around the state are engaging in acts of solidarity to show their strength to the Pawlenty Administration.  If you are a member of a DHS local, contact your local president to see how you can get involved today.

CORRECTIONS OFFICERS TAKE ACTION ON SHIFT EXCHANGE ISSUE
Unit 8 Corrections officers are putting pressure on management to resolve a guidelines violation in their contract language.  Workers are engaging in solidarity acts at each of the nine locations across the state.  Stay strong and turn up the heat for justice.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA LOCALS WORK WITH ADMINISTRATION FOR EQUITABLE PAY GRID
University of Minnesota locals and management are discussing through the Bureau of Mediation Services how to come up with an equitable pay grid.  A Memorandum of Understanding from their last contract stated they would sit down and look at pay grid compression since both workers and management agree that 28 steps are too many.  The goal is to work together to establish steps that make it possible to reach maximum pay.  Congratulations on moving forward with this issue.

DAKOTA COUNTY LOCAL 306 CATCHES CONTRACT LANGUAGE DISCREPENCY
Dakota County Local 306 has approved a letter of agreement permitting deleting language from their contract.  Because of members’ proof reading and the responsibility they take for their contract, they were able to catch a County attempt to delete language without negotiating with the Union.  The Union and County came to an agreement that both acknowledges the County’s mistake and sets no precedence.  Congratulations.

DONATE BLOOD AT COUNCIL 5 CONVENTION

CALL COUNCIL 5 FOR YOUR VIDEO NEEDS
Does your local have an event that you would like on video?  Are you holding an informational picket, rally, or other event that can show other members the pride you take in your work?  AFSCME Council 5 now has access to video and would love to come out and capture it on film.  Contact Jessica Hayssen at 651-287-0537 to make it happen.
