Council 5 Training Program

Council 5 provides a variety of Training Programs throughout the year. Scheduled programs are listed below.

Time: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, unless otherwise noted.

Cost: Basic Steward Training is $50 per person.  This includes $20 for the manual and $15 per day for lunch.  All other prescheduled training is $15 for lunch and $5 per participant for materials.

Basic Steward Training (two days)

Designed for new stewards and stewards who want a refresher course.

Chief Steward Training

Specifically for chief stewards elected or appointed within their local.

Secretary's Training

This is just for Local Union Secretaries. Learn exactly what information should be included in the minutes, discuss leadership duties and network with other local union recording secretaries.

Financial Responsibility Training

For anyone in the local who signs checks or conducts audits. Formerly Treasurer's Training. Taught by the International Union and Council 5 staff.

Customized Training

The emphasis for the 2009 calendar is to offer education that strengthens local union development.  This includes leadership development, increasing activism among members and building power through union building.  We believe the best way to do this is to customize the training according to the local needs.  We ask local officers to invite us to confer about how we can help your Union become more active and visible.  Below is a sample of training that can be developed for your local union.

Political Workshops:
PEOPLE Program, Tax Structures, Political Campaigns, Economics Education
Union Building Workshops:
Talking to co-workers one-on-one, Organizing around Issues; Union Building , Union 101, Local Union Development

Executive Board Training, Negotiations Training, Labor Relations (including Labor Management Training), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Contract Campaign Training, Strike Preparation, Facilitation Requests

Cancellations: To cancel, contact Christina Domeier.  Locals will be billed $15 per person for late cancellations.  A cancellation will be considered late if we are notified after the food has been ordered, usually about a week before the scheduled class.
