(St. Paul) — Today, one of the state’s largest and most politically active unions – AFSCME Minnesota Council 5 – announced its endorsement of Mark Ritchie for reelection as Secretary of State.

Union president Mike Buesing explains, “Mark Ritchie understands that every voice and every vote matters. He demonstrated that by running a clean U.S. Senate recount and restoring credibility to our electoral process. Under his capable leadership, it’s easy for Minnesotans to register to vote and we know that all ballots will be counted accurately.”

“As Secretary of State, Mark Ritchie has been a good boss,” says Buesing. “He treats frontline staff with dignity and works with them to provide even better services to the public. Voters and folks who want to start a business can always get the help they need from the AFSCME/Ritchie team.”

Council 5 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is a union of 43,000 workers who advocate for excellence in public services, dignity in the workplace, and opportunity and prosperity for all working families. The union represents workers in the Secretary of State’s office.
