Members of AFSCME Council 5 – one of Minnesota’s largest and most politically active unions – will meet with legislators February 17 to help shape a state budget that will put Minnesota back to work. This year’s Day-on-the-Hill theme is “For a Better Minnesota.”

Nearly 800 union members are registered to rally in the State Capitol rotunda at 12:30 p.m. Wed., February 17 and meet with their state legislators that afternoon to share their legislative priorities:

  • Raise revenue, including fair taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations.
  • Protect the essential public services that families need most during tough times.
  • Save and create good jobs to jumpstart economic recovery.
  • Restore aid to state and local governments to stabilize property taxes.
  • Rescue General Assistance Medical Care.
  • Stop privatization that threatens the quality of public services.
  • Defend pensions so public employees can retire with dignity.
  • Mitigate layoffs with an early retirement incentive for state employees.

AFSCME members provide the vital services that sustain Minnesota’s quality of life. They are deeply concerned about attempts to starve, shrink and privatize public services.

AFSCME Council 5 is a union of 43,000 public and non-profit workers throughout Minnesota who advocate for excellence in public services, dignity in the workplace, and opportunity and prosperity for all working families.
